IGP ALLAYS FEARS OF FCT RESIDENTS, DEPLOYS ADDITIONAL MANPOWER, ASSETS
- Assures Nigerians of Improved Security, Cautions Against Spread of False Alarms
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc(+), NPM, fdc, has allayed the fears of residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs concerning the recent perceived security threats as he ordered massive deployment of additional police operatives and operational assets within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs to solidify the security and protection of lives and property of its residents, critical national assets and vulnerable facilities as well as road users plying routes in and around the FCT.
The IGP made the charge during the Force Management Team’s meeting at his office on Monday, August 1st, 2020, while receiving general security updates on the nation. He has equally charged the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, DIG Bala Zama Senchi, to supervise and manage the deployment to ensure maximum security in the FCT as well as surrounding states with a high risk of attacks resonating from the threats being speculated on the news, as the Force does not and will never handle any information with kid gloves. The IGP however cautioned members of the public, especially citizen-journalists, on the dangers of spreading false alarms, misinformation, and disinformation as they could be detrimental and counter-productive to national security.
In the same vein, the Inspector-General of Police has assured Nigerians in general, and residents of the FCT in particular, of their safety and security, while urging them to go about their lawful duties without fear of attacks. He equally reiterated the firm determination of the Police leadership to continue to explore avenues to enhance the security architecture in the country, through intelligence gathering, operational deployments and application of cutting-edge technology to decimate the activities of criminal elements across the country.

Police arrest robbery suspects in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, on Saturday, arrested three robbery suspects who attacked a company in Ogijo, Sagamu Local government Area of the state.
Shadrach Blessing, 25, Edibo Peter, 25, and Osuwgu Oyebuchi, 27, were arrested following a distress call to the Ogijo
A statement by the state’s police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the trio, who were members of an armed robbery syndicate, attacked Ruthfort Service Limited at Ikorodu-Sagamu axis of Ogijo in company of others now at large.
“The robbers, who gained access to the company at about 2:45 am through the fence, pointed gun to the security man on duty after cutting the security wire and ordered him to lie face down while they removed four industrial batteries.
“On receiving the distress call, the DPO Ogijo division, CSP Onatufeh Umoh, quickly led his patrol team to the scene where the robbers who had already escaped to the street were chased in collaboration with members of the public and they apprehended three amongst them, while others escaped.
“Recovered from them are the four industrial batteries,” the statement read in part.
Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation.
NDLEA seizes Cocaine in teabags, arrests 4 traffickers at Lagos, Abuja airports
Mops up 88,734 Tramadol caps, Cracks, others in Kano, Kaduna, Benue, Akwa Ibom, FCT raids
Fresh attempts by Brazil based drug cartels to smuggle substantial quantities of Cocaine into Nigeria through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos by concealing the Class-A illicit substance in teabags have again been thwarted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
At least, four traffickers involved in the attempts to import and export illicit drugs through the country in the last week are now in the custody of the Agency. One of them is 33-year-old Pascal Ekene Okolo, an indigene of Ihe in Ogwu Local Government Area of Enugu state, who was arrested during an inward clearance of Qatar Airways flight from Sao Paulo via Doha at the arrival hall of the NAIA on Sunday 17th April.
Okolo who claimed to be into wine business in Brazil was arrested with a travelling bag containing different medicinal teabags, which were used to conceal 4.1kilograms of cocaine.
Same day, a Canada based Nigerian, Anigo Christian Godspower was intercepted at the D-Arrival Hall of the MMIA, Ikeja, during an inward clearance of passengers on Qatar Airways from Sao Paolo via Doha to Lagos. When his luggage was searched, two blocks of Cocaine with a total weight of 2.10kg were discovered.
The 52-year-old Anigo who hails from Udi local council area of Enugu state claimed he operated an unregistered Bureau De Change business before delving into the illicit drug trade.
The bid by another cartel to export 950grams of Heroin concealed in the soles of ladys footwears through the MMIA cargo shed was equally foiled by anti-narcotic officers who have so far arrested two suspects linked to the crime. Those arrested between 16th and 17th April in connection with attempt to export the drug to Monrovia, Liberia include: Idokoja Solomon Chukwurah and Patrick John Tochukwu.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in raids in Kano, Kaduna, Benue and Akwa Ibom state have seized no less than 88,734 doses of Tramadol, Pentazocine, Diazepam and Swinol. In Kano, Aliyu Usman, 28, was arrested at Railway area of the state capital with 47,000 capsules of Tramadol and 2,000 ampules of pentazocine injection on Tuesday 19th April while Saminu Usman, 28, was nabbed with 24,710 Tramadol tablets at Gadar Tamburawa area of Kano two days earlier.
In Benue, another dealer, Emeka Eze was arrested at an NDLEA checkpoint at Adikpo, Kwande Local Government area of the state with 10,000 Tramadol capsules and 900 tablets of swinol, while in Kaduna state, the duo of Raphael Daniel and David Musa were arrested at Mando park, Kaduna with 1kg of Cocaine on Thursday 21st April.
A week after Muhammad Sani Ibrahim sent 12.1kg of cannabis from Lagos to Kaduna, operatives were able to trace and arrest him last Thursday and brought him to Kaduna after his consignment was intercepted.
Another dealer, Kamilu Ibrahim was also arrested same day at Kargi village in Kubau LGA, Kaduna State with 10.6kg Cannabis Sativa, while Bashir Ibrahim was arrested on Friday 22nd April after his four consignments containing Cannabis Sativa weighing 44.6kg were intercepted three days earlier along Abuja-Kaduna express road.
In Akwa Ibom state, operatives arrested two female drug dealers: Eno-Obong Edet, 36, and Hossana Esema Ukpong, 28, with various quantities of Rohypnol, Diazepam, Tramadol and Cannabis, while a suspected fake security agent was arrested on Saturday 23rd April in Abuja while moving 23.8kg cannabis from Lagos to Maiduguri, Borno state.
Pleased with the development, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) commended the officers and men of the NAIA, MMIA, Kano, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom and FCT Commands of the Agency for sustaining the heat on drug cartels. He charged them and those in other commands across the country to remain vigilant and on the offensive until the last gram of illicit drugs is taken away from the streets.

Police Personnel Ambush Terrorists In Zaria, Free 4 Abducted Victims
Personnel of the Kaduna State Police Command, assisted by local vigilante have ambushed suspected terrorists who abducted four people, freeing the victims in the process.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammed Jalige, dated Sunday April 17, 2022.
“On the 15th April, 2022 at about 2340hrs the Kaduna Police Command received a distress call from an anonymous caller through DPO Daanmagaji Zaria that unspecified number of suspected terrorists dressed in military gear have invaded Gabari Community Samaru of Sabon Gari LGA Kaduna, shot rapidly and in the process, whisked away four victims into the forest.
“On getting the information, the command immediately mobilised operational assets alongside men of Operation Puff Adder II and local vigilantes; the team courageously laid ambush on the bandits’ expected route,” it said.
According to ASP Jalige fortunately, the strategy paid off as fierce encounter with the bandits ensued, which led to the rescue of two of the kidnapped victims at that very moment.
“Upon preliminary investigation, the rescued victims were identified as; Zaituna Muna ‘F’ and Grace Muna ‘F’ both of Gabari village Samaru.
“Similar strategy was adopted at Gwada village where the bandits were still expected to traverse with the assistance of vigilantes of the said village, the bandits who escaped the first onslaught were again intercepted and the remaining two kidnapped victims were also rescued unhurt namely, Fatima Ibrahim (f) and Amina Adamu (f ),” it informed.
Unfortunately, it was discovered that the bandits in the process of abducting the victims, shot and killed one Yarima Mohammed of Kufena village Wusasa who resisted been kidnapped.
The Commissioner of Police CP Yekini A Ayoku psc(+), mni commended the gallantry and professionalism exhibited by the Officers during the operation which is in tune with his policing philosophy of ‘robust response to distress situation’ and tasked them not to relent in the fight against violent crimes.
He also urged members of the Public to always avail the Police with prompt information at any time of the day as the Police under his watch must treat every information provided with absolute confidentiality.
The CP also used the opportunity to condole with the family of the deceased and pray that he finds eternal rest.
